State Police ID Deceased in High-Speed Crash

Virginia State Police have identified the driver whose fatal single-vehicle crash shut down Tappahannock’s main thoroughfare for most of the day on Feb. 19.

Calvin Daniels, 31, of Henderson, N.C., succumbed to injuries at the scene of the early morning crash at Queen Street and North Church Lane.

Daniels was driving a 2020 Genesis G70 when he lead Richmond County law enforcement officials on a chase that reached speeds of up to 137 miles-per-hour before coming across the bridge.

The vehicle struck a stop light, a parked vehicle, a chain link fence, and a tree.

Daniels, the sole occupant of the vehicle, succumbed to injury on the scene.

The crash remains under investigation by the State Police, with the assistance of the Richmond Division Crash Reconstruction Team.
