Parents and grandparents can help their children learn the joy of giving by signing them up for Children’s Gift Shopping on Saturday, December 3. This beloved annual activity is offered at Rice’s Hotel / Hughlett’s Tavern in Heathsville as part of “Golden Village Christmas.” Children ages 4 to 12 do their own special gift shopping for $1 a gift.

“Golden Village Christmas” is a festive celebration of the season and includes shopping, fresh greenery, bake sale, visits with Santa, caroling and holiday cheer. The Northumberland Public Library’s “mobile library” will be on site, giving out free books to children, and an array of antique and classic cars are expected to cruise in. All the Tavern’s guilds will be open and demonstrating, including the Woodworkers, Blacksmiths, Spinners & Weavers, and Quilters.

“Golden Village Christmas” runs from 10 am to 2 pm, but the children’s shopping has expanded hours, from 9 am to 3 pm. Tavern “elves” help kids select appropriate gifts and then wrap and tag the gifts as well. Santa will be greeting children from 11 am to 1 pm. Children’s shopping is also available on Sunday, December 4 from noon to 2 p.m.

Call the Tavern at 804- 580-3377 to make an appointment for children to shop.

Donations of new and gently used gifts are gratefully accepted for this annual community activity. Donations may be dropped off at the Tavern Thursday through Saturday, 10 am to 2 pm.

An all-volunteer nonprofit organization, Rice’s Hotel / Hughlett’s Tavern is located at 73 Monument Place in Heathsville, just off Route 360 behind the old Northumberland Courthouse. The Tavern Café and Gift Shoppe are open year-round, Thursday thru Saturday, 10 am to 2 pm. For more information, visit www.RHHTFoundationinc.org or call 804-580-3377.
