Northumberland came to Tappahannock on September 30 and dispatched the Essex Lady Trojans in a 3-set Northern Neck District volleyball contest.

The Lady Indians prevailed by set scores of 25-8, 25-16, and 25-10.

The result dropped Essex to 0-3 in NND play and 3-7 overall, while Northumberland improved its district mark to 2-1 and its overall record to 3-7.

“Our girls have got to find their will,” Essex coach James Jeter said afterward. “We’re just not meshing. Once they do, I feel we’ll be awesome.”

Northumberland dominated the opening set, scoring 18 points on winners.

In the second set, the Lady Indians benefited from Essex miscues scoring 14 points off Lady Trojan execution errors.

“We helped them a lot,” Jeter noted. “But they have a great group of young and talented girls. They work really hard.”

“I thought we played pretty well tonight, although I think we still have room for improvement,” Northumberland coach Haley Woolard observed. “Our passing looked much better than our last few games. When our passing is good we get kills at the net and that’s what wins games.”
