The Essex Lady Trojans softball team opened their 2024 softball campaign on Friday with a 15-3 rout of homestanding Colonial Beach.

Senior Elexas Reynolds led the 17-hit Essex attack with four hits, including a double.

Other multi-hit outings were turned in by Kylie Jones (3- for-4), Bailey Fones (2-for- 5), Ty’Nia Ball (2-for-3), and Amani Brown (2-for-3).

Additional extra base hits were produced by Jones (double and triple), Macey Revere (double) and Makiryn Williams (triple).

Reynolds finished with four RBIs, while Jones and Morgan Self knocked in three runs apiece.

Jones earned the win in the pitching circle. She allowed seven hits in the five inning contest, while strik- ing out six and walking one. Essex 12, King & Queen 0

Ball went the route in the pitching circle and was backed by an offense that collected seven hits and seven walks in a 12-0 blanking of King and Queen Central on March 26 in Tappahannock.

Ball allowed a single hit and fanned 11 in the 4 ½ inning contest. Her 72 pitch outing included 50 pitches for strikes.

At the plate, Kylie Jones had the only multi-hit outing as she finished 2-for-2 with a pair of RBIs and two runs scored.

Williams also knocked in two runs, while Fones, Ball, Brown and Kenedi Campbell scored two runs apiece.

Essex swept its two-game series with the Class 4 Eagles from Williamsburg with a decisive 18-7 outcome on March 25 in Tappahannock.

Fones led a 13-hit onslaught with a 4-for-5 performance, including a triple. She finished with 3 RBIs and scored twice.

Loghan Mahan and Brown both collected two hits with Brown knocking in four runs and Mahan three.

Ball and Self scored three runs each.

Jones struck out eight in three innings of work in the pitching circle, while Ball tossed the last two innings giving up seven runs (only two earned), while striking out three, walking fourth, and surrendering one hit.
