Dr. Rob Wright has been appointed the new Director of Chesapeake Bay Governor’s School (CBGS) for Marine and Environmental Science.
Wright is an alumnus of CBGS and Rappahannock High School. He previously served as a Band Director and Gifted Education Resource teacher in Westmoreland County, and later as an Elementary Principal and Director of Special Projects in King and Queen County.
Most recently, he worked at the Virginia Department of Education as a Title I and Title IV Grant Specialist, where he supported school divisions across the state in strengthening academic and enrichment programs. Dr. Wright earned his doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Virginia.
“As a proud alumnus of CBGS, I am both honored and humbled to return as its Director,” Wright says. “CBGS played a formative role in my development as both a student and an educator, and it is a privilege to lead the school that helped shape me. I look forward to working alongside our talented teachers and dedicated families to support our students’ growth, continue the school’s legacy of excellence, and carry forward the meaningful work that makes CBGS such a unique and inspiring place to learn.”
Wright lives in Tappahannock with his wife, Kelly, and their two children. In his free time, he enjoys making music, playing board games, and running. He officially starts this position on July 1.
