EHS Students Spread Holiday Joy

The Essex High School Family, Career and Community Leaders of America and National Honor Society got “Christmas kicked-off early” by building Advent Calendars for the Essex House Assisted Living. Advent calendars contain small, surprise gifts for each day between December 1 and December 24 – helping to create a festive season. With the financial support of the Tappahannock-Warsaw Moose Lodge, students designed and sewed the advent calendars, made (mostly) the presents, then packed each calendar for delivery. Some examples of the presents made include: wooden bookmarks, 3D Magnets and Keychains, personalized cards, glow-in-thedark stars and fun stickers. Aniyah Smith, an EHS junior, led the project and coordinated the effort with the Essex House. A celebration dinner capped the event with cooking by students from the Northern Neck Technical Center’s Culinary Program.
