Firefighters spent more than an hour battling this house fire at 358 Poplar Springs Drive near Brays Fork on Friday, May 30. Tappahannock-Essex Volunteer Fire Department Chief Paul Richardson told the Rappahannock Times that a preliminary investigation indicated the blaze started in the garage area of the three-bedroom residence. He said officials with the state fire marshal’s office were contacted to perform a full probe into the fire’s origin. The residence was vacant at the time of the blaze which was reported at 2:55 p.m., Richardson said. The Richmond County Volunteer Fire Department provided mutual aid. The house was the home of Amanda Lewis Stalnaker, her partner Mark Kleinschmidt, and her two young sons. A social media campaign has been undertaken to collect gift cards to help the family rebuild their lives, with Maltese Brewing Company serving as a drop-off spot for the gift cards.
