An Essex County Grand Jury has indicted a 59-year-old Warsaw woman for her alleged involvement in a Tappahannock traffic fatality earlier this year.
A true bill of indictment was issued against Michele Ann King during October 23 Grand Jury proceedings in Essex County Circuit Court.
King was indicted for manslaughter-DUI for the incident that occurred on July 1. King is the alleged operator of a vehicle that struck 80-year-old Diane P. Kean, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
King, who also faces misdemeanor charges of Driving while Intoxicated/Drugs, Reckless Driving, and Obstruction. and her attorney, Peter L. Trible Jr., appeared in court briefly last week for the setting of a trial date. A bench trial is scheduled for April 16, 2025.
King remains free on bond which was granted in General District Court. Terms of her bond include house arrest (can only leave for court, doctor, pretrial or substance abuse treatment); prohibition against operating a motor vehicle; pretrial with drug screens; and peace and good behavior, according to Essex County Commonwealth’s Attorney James M. Sitton II.
In another Grand Jury matter involving a road fatality, a 43-year-old Winchester man was indicted for his alleged role in a May crash.
Martimiano Perez Linares was indicted on two counts of involuntary manslaughter DUI and two counts of DUI-serious injury.
Virginia State Police responded to a single-vehicle crash on May 22 in the 5300 block of Tidewater Trail,
A 2003 Dodge pick-up truck, operated by Perez Linares, was pulling a small trailer when it ran off the road to the left and overturned, ejecting three passengers and entrapping the driver.
Two of the three passengers, Jose Euglogio Cruz Gomez, 61, and Wulfrano Cruz Gomez, 41, both of Winchester, Va. succumbed to injury on scene. The third passenger, Jose Angel Romero Hernandez, 36, and Perez Linares were flown by MedFlight to a hosptial. Romero Hernandez suffered a serious but non-life-threatening injury.
A December 4 trial date was set.
