Following a November 30 closed session, the Essex County Board of Supervisors announced it unanimously voted to name April Rounds interim County Administrator effective January 1, 2023.
Rounds currently serves as Assistant County Administrator.
Current County Administrator Michael Lombardo will be retiring effective December 30.
“We have complete confidence in Ms. Rounds ability to lead our staff in the coming months as we open our search for a full time County Administrator,” Board of Supervisors Chairman Robert Akers said. “Over the past several years she has been a vital part our operations and is a key member of the staff we have here in Essex County.”
“I am optimistic about the future and while the next few months will present challenges, all can be accomplished through hard work, dedication and by working together,” Rounds told the Rappa- hannock Times. “I look forward to meeting and networking with new people, lending my talents and leveraging my strengths to projects and initiatives that benefit the citizens and businesses at large. It’s important to safeguard and protect our precious rural and agricultural areas, while highlighting and showcasing the great gifts and natural resources they offer to all of us.”
A Hampton Roads native, Rounds moved to Tappahannock in 2017 following a 17-year career with the U.S. Department of Defense, and joined Essex County’s staff the following year.
She became the Assistant County Administrator on July 1, 2021.
Rounds is a graduate of Averett University in Danville, holding a degree in business administration with a minor in finance. She is a member of the Virginia Municipal Clerk’s Association, a member of Virginia Association of Counties, and a lifetime member of Sigma Beta Delta which is the International Honor Society in Business, Management and Administration.
In another matter, the supervisors voted to allocate a Christmas bonus to county staff of $250 for full-time employees and $125 for part-time employees
