Independence Day fireworks began early for residents of the Lake Drive Town Homes in Tappahannock as residents were forced to evacuate their homes after a car fire created havoc in the complex located along Townhouse Drive.
Tappahannock-Essex Volunteer Fire Department Chief Paul Richardson told the Rappahannock Times the incident was reported at 11:13 a.m. Friday. He said when crews arrived on scene about seven minutes later, they discovered the vehicle fully involved in flames at 1088 Townhouse Drive.
Richardson said the fire extended to the complex and damaged siding on the front of a building where the vehicle had been parked. He said the building superintendent reported hearing the horns sounding and viewed heavy smoke inside the vehicle.
Approximately 10 firefighters were on scene, Richardson said. The fire chief added that while no cause of the blaze has been determined, it was more than likely of an electrical origin.
He added that there were no injuries.
