New Orthopaedic Surgeons At VCU Tapp.

DR. DANIEL LAYON

VCU Health Tappahannock Hospital introduces two new orthopaedic surgeons to the community. Beginning this month, Lee Gammon, MD, will be based full time at the Tappahannock orthopaedic practice in the Mount Clement Office Park. In addition, Daniel Layon, MD, will see patients in Tappahannock and at other VCU Health orthopaedic offices in Richmond. Both surgeons will operate at the hospital in Tappahannock.

“We continue to bring quality care closer to home for the residents of Tappahannock and the Northern Neck,” explains Liz Martin, president of VCU Health Tappahannock Hospital. “Providing general orthopaedic care and expanded access to subspecialty care is an essential part of our mission.”

Dr. Gammon graduated from the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. He completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at VCU in Richmond and returns to the area for practice after recently completing his fellowship in Orthopaedic

Sports Medicine at the University of North Carolina. He specializes in joint replacement and preservation, and open or arthroscopic and minimally invasive treatments of sports injuries and other problems involving the hip, knee, ankle, shoulder, elbow and wrist joints.

“I’m excited to be part of the Tappahannock community,” says Dr. Gammon. “I look forward to bringing excellent orthopaedic care to patients, because I recognize how important it is for helping patients regain and achieve a better quality of life.”

DR. LEE GAMMON

Dr. Layon graduated from Drexel University College of Medicine before also coming to VCU for his orthopaedic surgery residency. Most recently, he worked at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, completing his fellowship focused on Orthopaedic Adult Reconstruction, including hip and knee replacements of every kind – primaries, revisions, periprosthetic infections, periprosthetic fractures.

“My goal with patient care is to get patients back to the activities they enjoy,” explains Dr. Layon. “We have so many options for surgical and non-surgical treatment of hip and knee pain and I’m excited to be part of an orthopaedic team that shares my passion for helping patients.”

Both surgeons will be able to handle surgeries for ligament/meniscal tears and cartilage injuries, as well as many other routine procedures, such as hip, knee, and shoulder injections.

Dr. Glenn Lee, who specializes in hand and wrist orthopaedics and peripheral nerve surgery, and Paul Franklin, AGACNP, will continue to see patients in Tappahannock as well.
