Winston Cason Chilton, 13, of Loretto, Virginia, passed away on May 17, 2025.
An 8th grade student at Aylett Country Day School, Cason wasn’t just a good student he was extraordinary. Set to graduate in the top three of his class, his dedication, curiosity, and drive set him apart in every classroom he entered. He was known for his vibrant spirit, love of adventure, and warm heart.
Cason lived life to the fullest. Whether tearing through trails on his dirt bike, casting a line into the water, hunting in the early morning hours, or playing travel baseball, he was happiest outdoors. His energy, enthusiasm, and kind soul left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
Cason will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. He is lovingly survived by his parents Lindsay Rae Ellis of Loretto and Jonathan and Katie Chilton of Lancaster; his two sisters Ann Layton Gawen and Ava Chilton; his maternal grandparents Winston and Tracy Ellis of Champlain; his paternal grandparents Jock and Nancy Chilton and Robert and Lynn Tate of Lancaster; maternal great-grandmother Betty Jean Ellis of Champlain; paternal greatgrandmother Doris Gill of Lancaster; aunts and uncles Ryan and Courtnie Ellis of Chance, Catherine and Will Ford of Lacrosse, Aaron and Logan Tate of Salt Lake City, and Mandy Binstied of Fairfax, numerous cousins, great uncles and great aunts.
A celebration of Cason’s life was held 1:00 p.m. Friday, May 23, 2025 at Aylett Country Day School, 1657 Powcan Rd, Bruington, VA 23023. The Rev. Dr. John Seltzer officiated. Interment followed in Upper Essex Baptist Church Cemetery, Caret. Pallbearers were Ryan Ellis, Will Ford, Tripp Ellis, Mason Johnson, Berkeley Garner, Chandler Eubank, Peter Dickinson, and Lane Reynolds.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations, in Cason’s memory, be made to Aylett Country Day School, PO Box 70, Millers Tavern, VA 23115.
