Essex Blanks Colonial Beach Twice

Essex bats awoke from an early slumber as the Trojans scored six fifth inning runs to blank Colonial Beach 10-0 at Ashton Field on April 29.

“We waited a little while to get the bats going,” observed Essex coach Reed Harmon. “We got some hits from people who’ve been struggling a little bit so that was good to see. Plus, our pitcher (Jake Richardson) wasn’t at his best tonight, but did a good job of wiggling out of some situations.”

A freshman, Richardson struck out eight and walked one while finishing with a four-hitter in the five inning contest.

Jay Jeter and Jacob Durham paced the Trojans with two hits apiece. Jeter finished with 3 RBIs, while Durham drove in two runs.

Kyran Howard’s two-run single in the fifth brought the game to a halt due to the 10-run mercy rule.

Two days later, Essex traveled to Colonial Beach and trounced the Drifters 16-0. This contest also ended after five innings due to the mercy rule.

Noah Thompson finished with a one-hitter and fanned seven in a route-going performance.

Keion Hence, Howard and Jeter paced the Trojans’ 13- hit attack as they each finished 3-for-4.

Jeter and Hence drove in three runs as did Aiden Mc- Girt.

Essex plated six second inning runs for a 7-0 lead.

Essex plays at Lancaster tonight and finishes regular season play next week at King William (May 12), at Westmoreland (May 13), and at home against Westmoreland (May 15).
