Youth Livestock Show And Sale



The 76th annual 4-H/FFA Fredericksburg Area Youth Livestock Show and Sale is set to take place May 3-4, 2024 at The Meadow Event Park in the First Bank and Trust Company Pavilion (Gate 6) in Doswell. The show will begin with an Opening Ceremony at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, May 3, followed by conformation classes beginning at 2 p.m. On Saturday, May 4, showmanship classes begin at 8 a.m. After the conformation and showmanship competition events, the auction takes place on Saturday beginning with a presale welcome and awards and show dedication at 4:30 p.m. Youth have the option to sell their animals at auction. Community members and businesses bid on animals with the funds going to the individual who raised each animal.

Prior to the auction event, participants, buyers, and the community are invited to a BBQ dinner starting at 3 p.m. at the same location. Tickets to the BBQ can be purchased during the show or at the door.

At the event, youth can also compete in a Stockman’s contest. This contest is a written test that evaluates youth on their knowledge of animal care, meat cuts, feed identification, tools and breed identifications. Participants have the opportunity to win ribbons and prize money for their efforts in all of the competitions.

Seventy-nine youth from Caroline, Essex, Hanover, King George, Spotsylvania, Stafford and Richmond counties will be competing in the event that showcases their livestock projects. Species shown include hogs, goats, lamb, and beef animals. The public is invited to attend this event in support of local youth.

4-H is the youth development program of Virginia Cooperative Extension that emphasizes the concept of “learn by doing.” 4-Hers are encouraged to “Make the best better” in all aspects of their life.
