The Rappahannock Times is pleased to announce the addition of a new part-time staff writer.

Destinee Broaddus is a native of Saint Stephens Church in King and Queen, where she lives with her parents and younger brother.

She is a graduate of King and Queen Central High School, class of 2021. During her time at Central High School, she was involved in student government, National Honor Society, JROTC, volleyball, softball, and the cheerleading squad. She maintained a 3.5 GPA and graduated in the top 5 percent of her class.

Destinee is a current student at Norfolk State University, studying Mass Communications. She is very involved on campus. She is a member of the Robert C. Nusbaum Honors College, due to her academic excellence.

Destinee has been writing for NSU’s school newspaper, The Spartan Echo, for almost three years and currently serves as the Editor-in-Chief. She enjoys writing investigative stories for the newspaper that often require follow-ups. For the past two semesters, Destinee has also served as the vice president of the campus’s chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ).

Destinee has a passion for journalism. She says the most important thing to her is to get the stories out there that matter. She plans to graduate from Norfolk State University in May of 2025 and attend graduate school for investigative journalism.

Destinee was recently accepted into the Missouri School of Journalism Fellowship Program at the University of Missouri, where she will spend time this summer writing and researching the world of journalism at one of the top journalism schools in the country. She is excited to expand her knowledge in the field of journalism during this fellowship. She will be gone for two months.

She says she is also excited to begin her new position at the Rappahannock Times Newspaper. She has much interest in local news, especially for her hometown. She cannot wait to begin her first job in her dream field.

Destinee will cover government and events in King and Queen County, among other things.
