Essex bounced back from a an extra inning loss to Lancaster by blanking Northampton 10-0 in a non-district baseball game contested on April 19 in Tappahannock.

The result improved the Trojans’ overall record to 6-6.

Southpaw Hunter Byrd recorded the win on the mound in the 4 1/2 inning encounter. He struck out six and walked none, while allowing four hits.

At the plate, Essex produced 10 hits with James “Jay” Jeter, Kyran Howard, and Keon Hence collecting two hits apiece. Howad and Taivian Holmes had two RBIs apiece.

After Essex took a 1-0 first inning lead, the Trojans broke open the conest with three runs in the second and four more in the third.

Jeter and Howard had run-scoring singles to highlight the Trojans’ second inning.

Damari Young and Holmes had RBI singles in the third, while Austin Parker plated a run on a ground out.

The previous day, the Trojans fell to 1-3 in Northern Neck District play with its 3-2 setback against Lancaster.

The Red Devils produced the game-winning run on an Essex error in the top of the eighth.

Essex forced extra innings by scoring a run in the home half of the seventh inning.

Hence doubled with two outs, advanced to third on a passed ball, and scored on a Bryan Roane single.

The Trojans scored their first run in the opening frame on a two-out, RBI single by Noah Thompson.

On the mound, Thompson struck out seven and allowed six hits in a route-going performance.

Essex will next play at home on April 25 against Rappahannock. The Trojans will play at Northumberland on April 30.
